5 REASONS YOU SHOULD VISIT YOUR DENTIST

1) Your gums bleed when you’re brushing
Healthy gums don’t usually bleed. You are probably overdue for a good cleaning and a check-up for any other serious issues. Bleeding gums are often a sign of gum disease. A cleaning and check-up can help prevent this.

2) You experience sensitivity that may be worsening or happening more often
Sensitivity can be caused by multiple reasons. Cavities, gum disease, tooth wear, cracked teeth, acid erosion, and more — a dental check-up can assess the current health of your mouth and diagnose the cause of sensitivity so these problems can be treated.

3) You had severe pain a couple of months ago that disappeared
If you had a toothache that was quite severe but did not visit the dentist to have it checked or fixed, unfortunately cavities do not close and teeth do not grow back. Chances are the problem is still there and most likely getting worse. Decayed or loose teeth, when left untreated, can lead to infections that may cause pain worse than what you previously experienced. Pain relief can sometimes be your body giving you a second chance to fix the problem. If left untreated, the pain can return at any time — much worse and more intense.

4) Bad breath
If you have been noticing bad breath recently, or have been told by someone else, you should have it checked out. Bad breath (halitosis) can be caused by plaque buildup, gum disease, cavities, decayed teeth, wisdom teeth, and more. It is important to diagnose the cause before spending money on expensive toothpastes or mouthwash. A professional cleaning may greatly improve the situation.

5) It’s been more than a year
If it has been more than a year, you’re overdue for a cleaning — and I’m sure your dental professional misses you! If you’ve had treatment before, you likely received a reminder to come in for your yearly check-up. So pop in — they definitely miss you.
